How CalCPA Benefits Los Angeles AccountantsThe California Society of Certified Public Accountants, or CalCPA, has more than 42,000 members and is the largest statewide association of CPAs. It is also one of the oldest CPA organizations in the country.

The organization can be a vital resource for Los Angeles CPAs and provides a wealth of knowledge and opportunities that they can take advantage of to further their development.

Developing Your Education and Leadership Skills

There are several benefits available when you join CalCPA. One of the biggest draws is the strong continuing education program. Since every CPA is required to complete CPE credits to maintain their certification on a yearly basis, members can easily fulfill these requirements.

You can choose from live events, courses, conferences, webcasts, and self-study products. Each member is offered a free ethics course, with first time members also receiving a free eight-hour course. The last one can be a huge benefit for first time members.

Those who are students or non-accounting professionals can join and take advantage of the educational resources provided for the CPA exam.

CalCPA also offers accountants the ability to develop their leadership skills. The Emerging Leaders Certificate Program allows CPAs to build on their leadership abilities while engaging with their peers and gaining exposure to local leaders in the profession.

While this is a comprehensive two-day program, there is also a more detailed five-day program known as the CalCPA Leadership Institute. Members with strong leadership skills have the option of applying to serve on one of the statewide committees.

Creating a Voice for Accountants

Outside of education and leadership, CalCPA provides a forum where accountants can voice their opinions on standards and practices debated in the California Legislature. The organizations also acts as an advocate for CPAs in California through the regulatory process.

They are also diligent in keeping current on new legislation that may impact your firm. Passionate members can join the grassroots program of the organization, where one establishes a relationship with elected officials and becomes a liaison.

Whether you are a newly minted CPA or a seasoned veteran, chances are the California Society of Certified Public Accountants can help you further your professional growth in one way or another. Members have the ability to network with hundreds or even thousands of CPAs across the state, sharing knowledge and experience that can be beneficial to everyone.
